Current Strand: Patterning & Algebra
Focus: Identifying, describing, creating and extending repeating patterns
In this unit your child will learn about different types of types of repeating patterns. They will learn to use different types of objects to make patterns, including: pattern blocks, chains, beads, connecting cubes, stickers and numbers. We are using letters to describe our patterns such as AB, ABC and ABA. The goal for the end of grade one is to be able to make the ABA patterns independently.
Last Strand: Data Management
Focus: Gathering, Organising and Displaying Data
In this unit your child will learn about the different ways to gather data, including creating and using surveys and tally charts. They will learn how to organise their data into a variety of graphs including pictographs and vertical bar graphs.
